Questions have been raised concerning PEF's status with both the AFL-CIO and SEIU in light of SEIU's withdrawal earlier this week from the AFL-CIO. As a result of PEF's dual affiliation with both SEIU and AFT, the SEIU disaffiliation from the national AFL-CIO will have no immediate impact on PEF's relationship in the community of organized labor. We will maintain our relationship with the State AFL-CIO, of which Roger Benson is a Vice President and member of the Executive Board, and with the national AFL-CIO through our other international
affiliate union, the American Federation of Teachers. The disaffiliation from the national AFL-CIO by SEIU should result in no changes in the terms and conditions of employment for PEF members or PEF staff. Any further questions can be referred to the President's office at ext. 211.
